In order to have fantasy, you must have places for it to happen. The creepy old haunted house, the ancient oak in the forest or the dark castle on the hill are all examples of such places. In order for a site to be mystical there must be something unusual about it. Ordinary places don't have myths spun about them that carry on. Nearly all fantasy stories and fairy tales have a mystical place somewhere in the telling. Some fantasy even involves whole other worlds!
There are also places on our every day earth that have become mystical or mythical. Probably because we don't know that much about them (such as Stonehenge) and in the absence of information all that is left is speculation and imagination filling in the gaps. Or we have little proof of thier existance at all (such as Atlantis). From places like these have arisen some of the greatest myths and best stories.
I will be trying to touch a bit on both of these here. So if you don't see a place listed just yet, be sure to check back. I'm constantly adding and rearranging stuff. And why you're at it, join the mailing list so you'll know when updates happen. And before you leave, be sure to leave something in the guestbook. *smile*
