Magic of the Unicorn

"When the last eagle flies
Over the last crumbling mountain
And the last lion roars
At the last dusty fountain
In the shadow of the forest
Winter Unicorn Though she may be old and worn
They will stare unbelieving
At the Last Unicorn

When the first breath of winter
Through the flowers are icing
And you look to the north
And a pale moon is rising
And it seems like all is dying
And would leave the world to morn
In the distance hear her laughter
It's the Last Unicorn

I'm alive.... I'm alive...

When the last moon is cast
Over the last star of morning
And the future is past
Without even a last desperate warning
Look into the sky
Where through the clouds a path is formed
Look and see her
How she sparkles
It's the Last Unicorn

I'm alive.... I'm alive... I'm alive"

Crystal-Horn Wishing Star

The unicorn has always been close to my heart even when I was a child. I would stare, wide-eyed, at pictures and figurines that potrayed this majestic creature. I would draw them all over Lightening my notebooks and school notes. The unicorn fasinated me. It added a sense of wonder to my universe. I wanted to see a unicorn so badly that I would occassionally cry myself to sleep thinking I would never get a chance to see one.
It wasn't until much later, as I approached adulthood, that I discovered where I could find one. I had to only look within. My heart and my mind were the doorways to the forest of the unicorn. By believing in it, it became real. This is true of most things. If you don't believe me, take daylight savings time, for example. Only a few places in the world have a period of what is called 'daylight savings' time; namely, the United States. Essentially, the whole area wakes up one day and decides and believes that it is a different hour than it is. This happens twice a year. Ah, the power of belief!
Unicorns are majestic creatures, wild and untamed. In this world that we live in, where everything is structed, calculated and measured; where the rules of society, culture, government, religion and family weigh us down like chains, the unicorn represents that desire within us to be wild and free. It is the desire to run with the wind, dance beneath the stars wearing nothing but the moon's light and leave the responsibilites of this world behind. The unicorn invites us to dance with him, awakening to the magic that we all possess deep within us. He reminds us tokeep our hearts pure and open, for there is already more than enough hate, greed and violence to forever darken the world. He teaches us to heal the festering wounds that lie like boils over our hearts, and then to pass that                                                                                  healing to others. For he is Unicorn - and he is magic.
